If you are reading this, it’s a sign that you are ready to embrace this mystical journey ahead of you — a journey of deep healing, incredible transformations, and inner knowing.
But if you are new to the spiritual world,’ you might not know where to begin. Which I totally understand because I was there too.
So, let’s start from the beginning – what is a spiritual practice?
What is a spiritual practice?
A spiritual journey looks different for everyone, but at its core, it’s a journey of self-discovery — a never-ending quest to reconnect with our soul, find our destiny, and discover life’s purpose. A spiritual practice serves as an invitation to do so.
Through spiritual practice, we connect with our highest self and discover who we are and what life is about. They help us bring back our most authentic selves. Further, spiritual practices help us to elevate our energy and vibration, to realign with our soul’s purpose, and to find stillness and healing.
Before any spiritual practice, I recommend cleansing the energy around you first, which in itself is already a spiritual practice. If you’ve never cleansed your home energetically, find 7 easy ways to do so here.
How to start your spiritual practice
One of the most common questions we all have when we’re ready to deepen our spiritual journey is, “Where do I even begin?”
Here’s some guidance to get you started on your spiritual quest:
-
Start small
Don’t worry too much about your spiritual practice. There’s no need to adopt a new set of beliefs overnight. Becoming more spiritual can be as simple as setting 10 minutes a day aside for meditation. In the end, it’s about finding things that resonate with you.
-
Begin
Whatever it is you want to do, get started! Don’t overthink this. Be patient and gentle with yourself. If your mind wanders or you start doubting the whole ‘spiritual thing,’ that’s totally OK; you’re human – release the thoughts and keep going.
Remember not to rush – make sure you schedule yourself comfortably to have the time for your spiritual practice. You want your practice to feel joyful.
-
Embrace change
Once you get into a good groove with your practice, reflect on where you are. You may not always like what you see, but accept it and trust that with awareness comes change.
Self-evaluation is an incredibly helpful tool on your spiritual journey.
Embrace the fact that any practice invites change. No matter how scary, go with it. You never know where it might take you.
7 ideas to start your spiritual practice
It’s the small, everyday rituals and practices that will help you connect with your soul, let go of false beliefs and conditioning while slowly uncovering a deeper purpose in life.
Here are some of my favorite spiritual practices to get you started on your soul journey:
-
Meditation
What better way to start your day than with a short meditation? Meditation is a great way to get better in touch with your highest self.
Whether you chant a mantra, practice a quiet moment of mindfulness or listen to a guided meditation, setting aside a few minutes in the morning to connect with yourself and set positive intentions will set you up for a successful day in line with your spiritual values.

Journal
There’s no better tool for self-reflection and self-inquiry than journaling.
Journaling is such a powerful tool to get to know your unconscious thoughts. Each morning when you wake up, spend 10 to 20 minutes writing. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know what to write about; just start and let the words flow.
-
Yoga
Through yoga practice, we get a chance to connect with our bodies, minds, and souls in ways no other physical activity can.
Regular yoga practice makes us stronger, calmer, happier, and healthier and allows us to explore parts of ourselves that we might otherwise ignore. Yoga teaches us patience, perseverance, balance, and humility.
-
Gratitude
Count your blessings – while it might sound cliche, it does send a powerful message.
Simply reflecting on the good things happening in your life can help you harness the many benefits of gratitude. The best way to practice gratitude? By keeping a gratitude journal.
-
Ecstatic dance
Ecstatic dance is a free-form dance movement, often practiced without a fixed choreography. The idea is to move yourself and your body freely to the rhythm of the music leading to a state of trance and ecstasy.
Dance as if nobody’s watching!
Ecstatic dance helps you feel connected to your emotions and can be highly therapeutic. In ecstatic dance, you’re fully in your body and, therefore, also fully in the present moment. It is also a great way to embrace your feminine energy.
-
Find your spiritual community
Surround yourself with people that are like-minded and support you. This can mean attending a yoga class once or twice a week, visiting a local temple, or joining a spiritual community.
One of the oldest forms of spiritual community is a women’s circle. Women’s circles, also known as sisterhoods, are a gathering of women for women. They bring women together to celebrate the divine feminine, offering them a safe space to connect, share, and empower.
-
Connect with mother nature
The easiest way to connect with mother nature is by simply going outside: take a stroll in the park, go to the forest or the beach, or swim in natural waters. And while doing so, practice awareness and try to be mindful in the moment, breathing in and out.
Another great way to connect with mother nature is by growing a garden (if you have the space). Putting your hands in the soil will bring you directly in touch with mother earth.
